Information about the upcoming local election
On the 16th November there is a very important local municipality election in Denmark. This is YOUR chance to have an impact on climate change, so mark your calendars!
Who Can Vote?
Any person who is 18 years or older and is resident in the local authority area is eligible to vote in the election for local and regional councils.
Persons who are nationals of Denmark, another EU Member State, Iceland or Norway are eligible to vote.
If you do not fall under the above categories, you are eligible to vote if you have resided in Denmark for a period of four years prior to the election.
The following persons are not eligible to vote:
persons, that are on tolerated stay,
persons, that have been expelled from Denmark by a court judgement,
persons, that have been expelled from Denmark by administrative decision, and
persons that reside in Denmark in order to serve a sentence from an international criminal court.
British citizens can vote if they have been registered as living in Denmark before the 31st of January 2020 and have lived in Denmark ever since. If they have been registered after the 31st of January 2020 they won’t be able to vote in this election.
When can you vote?
The 16th of November 2021, between 8am and 8pm at your local polling station*. Remember to bring your photo ID and the voting card (valgkort) you have received in the mail.
*Some polling stations may have voting hours between 9am and 8pm. Be sure to check the voting hours of your local polling station before going. You can find the contact information for your local polling station on your voting card (valgkort).
